About Hasami-yaki
Hasami ware is a pottery type from Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu.
Its origin dates back over 400 years, when in 1599, the Korean potter LiYouquing was brought to Japan by the feudal lord of the Omura Clan Yoshiaki Omura.
Gradually, the production was specialized on porcelain, which today Hasami is famous for.
The town of Hasami is known for its efficient production method. Since the beginning, the work was split up between the various craftsmen in the village, each with their own expertise and in charge of a distinct stage of work. They were craftsmen of the highest caliber, contributing equally in this artisanal assembly line.
